From incidence to strategy: a systematic review in playing-related musculoskeletal disorders

The intense performance and repetitive movements for a long period of time contribute to the developing of musculoskeletal disorders in instrumental musicians. This study aims to identify the major musculoskeletal disorders in the practice of the musical instrument and reflect on strategies to be used in the music teaching and learning process to reduce the risk factors for future musculoskeletal disorders. A systematic review of English and non-English articles using PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus from 2015-2019. Additional studies were identified by searching abstracts presented at Medical Problems of Performing Artists (2015-2019) and Psychology of Music (2015-2019). Search terms included a combination of the keyword's musculoskeletal disorders, instrumental musicians, and music (n=187). From the systematic analysis pain, disabilities of the arm, shoulder, hand, neck, back and shoulders and temporomandibular, cervical muscle disorders and postural asymmetries are the major musculoskeletal disorders in the practice of the musical instrument. It is important to define preventive strategies to prevent and reduce the development of PRMDs in practitioners and performers.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The echoes of a relationship

Cada vez mais a investigação se tem dedicado ao estudo da componente sonora/musical que constitui o universo teatral. Apesar da sua importância na definição, análise e compreensão da obra, os objetivos de todos os estudos se têm centrado em elementos isolados que constituem a música de cena. Partindo do princípio que toda a componente sonora/musical é um conjunto orgânico, onde nenhum elemento deverá ser ignorado, o presente artigo pretende apresentar um olhar temporal da relação dialética e dialógica entre o universo sonoro e teatral. Os ecos dessa relação estão centrados na sua representatividade, importância e contributo para a evolução de todo o pensamento sonoro/musical na narrativa teatral, com particular incidência sobre as práticas composicionais e estéticas de Stanislavski, Meyerhold, Artaud, Brecht, Brook e Wilson na construção dessa ligação entre a música e o teatro.Increasingly the research has been devoted to the study of the musical/sound component that constitutes the theatrical universe. Despite their importance in defining, analysing, and understanding the theatrical work, the objectives of all studies have focused on isolated elements that constitute the music scene. If the entire musical/sound component is an organic set, where no element should be ignored, the present article intends to present a temporal look at the dialectical and dialogical relationship between the sound and the theatrical universe. Proximal expressive didactic: two decades of experience converted into a pedagogical-didactic model of an artistic-cultural nature

Pretendemos nesta investigação validar o conceito de Didática Expressiva Proximal (DEP) que deliberadamente reúne as expressões artísticas e a relação intergeracional e profissional entre o trabalho desenvolvido na academia auxiliado de forma participada / tutelar pela comunidade em regime de trabalho autónomo. Assume-se com uma participação assente num modelo com dos principais vetores: entre área (diálogo entre expressões artísticas-culturais) e base e / ou complemento de aprendizagens em outras áreas do saber através das expressões artístico-culturais. Ambas as abordagens são obrigatoriamente de apresentação publica pois redundam num esforço de integrar e fundir investigações em vários níveis e com profissionais experimentados conjuntamente como iniciantes neste domínio da participação em eventos internacionais como oradores ou palestrantes. Eventos estes, preparados pelos próprios e articulados com especialistas convidados (externos à UC, ao curso e à instituição) mediante o grupo e tema escolhido dentro do tema central acordado na unidade curricular, atendendo ao perfil do estudante e do futuro profissional a formar. Os especialistas funcionam como revisores por e entre pares, apresentando em conjunto o trabalho até aqui desenvolvido num evento internacional organizado a partir desta iniciativa (participação a convite), sendo o docente da unidade curricular o moderador da partilha de saberes (durante o processo), incluindo o debate e moderação do evento semipresencial para potenciar a participação de tutores e especialistas nacionais e internacionais de referência (apresentação pública). Como resultado das iniciativas realizadas a partir deste modelo, recorremos à metodologia mista (qualitativo e quantitativo) com base a um inquérito e Análise Swot em contexto educacional, perfazendo uma amostra de 153 indivíduos (de entre discentes, especialistas e oradores convidados dos eventos pedagógico-didáticos escolhidos para esta investigação).In this investigation, we intend to validate the concept of Proximal Expressive Didactics (DEP), which deliberately brings together artistic expressions and the intergenerational and professional relationship between the work developed in the academy assisted in a participatory / tutelary way by the community in an autonomous work regime. It is assumed with a participation based on a model with the main vectors: between area (dialogue between artistic-cultural expressions) and base and/or complement of learning in other areas of knowledge through artistic-cultural expressions. Both approaches are mandatory for public presentation as they result in an effort to integrate and merge investigations at various levels and with professionals jointly experienced as beginners in this field of participation in international events as speakers or lecturers. These events, prepared by themselves and articulated with invited experts (outside the UC, the course and the institution) through the group and theme chosen within the central theme agreed in the curricular unit, taking into account the profile of the student and the future professional to be trained. The specialists work as reviewers by and among peers, presenting together the work developed so far in an international event organized from this initiative (invited participation), with the curricular unit's professor being the moderator of knowledge sharing (during the process), including the debate and moderation of the semi-attendance event to enhance the participation of reference tutors and national and international experts ( public presentation). As a result of the initiatives carried out from this model, we resorted to a mixed methodology (qualitative and quantitative) based on a survey and Swot Analysis in an educational context, making a sample of 153 individuals ( among students, experts and guest speakers at the pedagogical events-chosen for this investigation).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Practice of sociodrama in school context

Este trabalho aborda a prática do Sociodrama em contexto escolar, especificamente nas aulas de Expressão Dramática. A disciplina de expressão dramática é definida como um espaço e uma ferramenta educativa que permite desenvolver o currículo escolar em vários domínios, tais como a educação artística, a expressão corporal, a língua ou literatura e pelas suas características relacionais e interpessoais, é de facto uma ferramenta poderosa para o desenvolvimento de habilidades sociais e pessoais. Constatando que as práticas teatrais traziam não só uma melhoria na assimilação dos conhecimentos, como permitiam a certos alunos ajustar as suas emoções e o seu comportamento e atitudes face a determinadas situações escolares. Pois as atividades dramáticas impõem um trabalho em equipa, em grupo, que pode favorecer qualquer tipo de aula. Estas situações em que o grupo está concentrado numa atividade, num jogo, ajudam a melhorar os aspetos da socialização e da comunicação, sempre que são propostas num espaço e clima seguros para o aluno. É nesse ambiente seguro que o Sociodrama entra, tendo como base a disciplina de Expressão Dramática. Este relatório tem por objetivo ilustrar como a prática do Sociodrama pode ser aproveitada no projeto educativo de uma Escola, e de que forma poderá fazer parte integrante desse mesmo currículo.This report addresses the practice of Sociodrama in schools, specifically in Dramatic Expression classes. Over the last ten years of teaching, I realized that not only did the theater practices lead to an improvement in the assimilation of knowledge, but they allowed certain students to adjust their emotions, their behavior and attitudes in relation to certain school situations. The area of dramatic Expression is defined as a space and an educational tool that allows the development of the school curriculum in various fields such as arts education, body expression, language or literature, and because of its relational and interpersonal characteristics, it is in fact a powerful tool for the development of social and personal skills. The Dramatic Play is an interesting tool for all teachers, not just for the professionals of the areas involved. Dramatic activities require team work, group work, which may favor any kind of class. These situations in which the group is focused on an activity, on a game, help improve socialization and communication aspects, whenever they’re proposed under an environment and a space which are safe for the student. It is in this safe environment that Sociodrama comes in, based on the discipline of Dramatic Expression. Unleashing creative synergies: a mixed-method case study in music education classrooms

Algorithmic music composition has been gaining prominence and recognition as an innovative approach to music education, providing students with opportunities to explore creativity, computational thinking, and musical knowledge. This study aims to investigate the impact of integrating algorithmic music composition in the classroom, examining its influence on student engagement, musical knowledge, and creative expression, as well as to enhance computational thinking skills. A mixed-method case study was conducted in three Basic Music Education classrooms in the north of Portugal, involving 71 participants (68 students and 3 music teachers). The results reveal: (i) both successes and challenges in integrating computational thinking concepts and practices; (ii) pedagogical benefits of integrating programming platforms, where programming concepts overlapped with music learning outcomes; and (iii) positive impact on participants’ programming self-confidence and recognition of programming’s importance. Integrating algorithmic music composition in the classroom positively influences student engagement, musical knowledge, and creative expression. The use of algorithmic techniques provides a novel and engaging platform for students to explore music composition, fostering their creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. Educators can leverage algorithmic music composition as an effective pedagogical approach to enhance music education, allowing students to develop a deeper understanding of music theory and fostering their artistic expression. Future research should contribute to the successful integration of digital technologies in the Portuguese curriculum by further exploring the long-term effects and potential applications of algorithmic music composition in different educational contexts.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Artes em meio prisional - presente e futuro

O presente estudo contou com a aprovação e apoio da Direcção-geral dos Serviços Prisionais e teve como objectivo central aferir a realidade actual e o que se perspectiva em termos da inclusão ou ampliação e respectivo do papel das artes em meio prisional nos estabelecimentos prisionais de Portugal continental e ilhas. Music and psychomotricity: from concepts to inclusion

O presente artigo tem como principal objetivo retratar e refletir sobre a conexão e partilha de diferentes dimensões entre a música e a psicomotricidade, bem como destacar a influência e preponderância que estes dois conceitos podem desempenhar no processo de ensino e aprendizagem de pessoas com necessidades educativas especiais. Com a aproximação dos referidos conceitos, pretendeu-se, também, ampliar as possibilidades de trabalho pedagógico em contexto educativo, de forma a respeitar as capacidades cognitivas, afetivas, emocionais e motoras das crianças. “HAPPY MUSICâ€: A PROJECT OF ACADEMIC - SOCIAL INTEGRATION THROUGH THE MUSICAL ART AND THE SHOW

A música potencia um dinamismo estimulante para a sociabilidade dos cidadãos pois o comportamento musical compreende os fatores biológicos, social e psíquico. A Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) disponibiliza uma das melhores salas de concerto do Rio de Janeiro (o Salão Leopoldo Miguez da Escola de Música) onde o evento de Extensão “Música Feliz†é realizado ininterruptamente desde 1995. Tendo em consideração que o espaço, o contexto e as condições em que a música acontece assumem-se como decisivas para a observância dos objetivos desta iniciativa integradora que envolve e reúne discentes e docentes da UFRJ, público externo (ensino fundamental e médio de escolas públicas e particulares) e demais interessados. Os destinatários desta iniciativa emanam de diversas faixas etárias e públicos-alvo dada a sua componente de extensão, de interação e integração socio-artística que estimula crianças, jovens e adultos a se apresentarem em público num espaço onde existe um intenso diálogo entre a música e a ciência como fatores significativamente benéficos para músicos, intérpretes, educadores assim como para os ouvintes e / ou espectadores. Uma aposta intensa na atividade motivacional para o aprimoramento técnico, desenvolvimento intra e interpessoal, crescimento de habilidades artísticas requisitadas para performance, autocontrole emocional assim como a ampliação do conhecimento cultural, musical e de repertório. As obras musicais a serem apresentadas são de livre escolha sem restrição quanto ao estilo musical e quanto às formações musicais, por forma a constituir-se numa iniciativa aberta às demais representações artísticas. Observamos que no âmbito deste evento, que é um celeiro de futuros profissionais, muitos participantes conquistaram sucesso em suas carreiras artísticas e acadêmicas de dimensão nacional ou internacional. Acreditamos que a nossa estratégia motivacional impulsiona a comunidade acadêmica e o público em geral para atuarem numa sala de concerto, o que para muitos participantes é uma oportunidade única.Music stimulates a stimulating dynamism for the sociability of the citizens because the musical behavior comprises the biological, social and psychic factors. The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) offers one of the best concert halls in Rio de Janeiro (the Salão Leopoldo Miguez of the School of Music) where the "Happy Music" Extension event has been held uninterrupted since 1995. Considering that the space, the context and the conditions in which the music takes place are decisive for the observance of the objectives of this integrating initiative that involves and brings together students and teachers from UFRJ, external public (primary and secondary schools of public and private schools) and other interested parties. The participants of this initiative emanate from different age groups and target audiences, given its extension, interaction and socio-artistic integration component that encourages children, youth and adults to perform in public in a space where there is an intense dialogue between music and science as significantly beneficial to musicians, performers, educators as well as listeners and/or spectators. An intense bet on motivational activity for technical improvement, intrapersonal and interpersonal development, growth of artistic skills required for performance, emotional self-control as well as the expansion of cultural, musical and repertory knowledge. The musical works to be presented are of free choice without restriction regarding the musical style and the musical formations, in order to constitute an initiative, open to the other artistic representations. We observe that in the scope of this event, which is a barn of future professionals, many participants have achieved success in their artistic and academic careers of national or international dimension. We believe that our motivational strategy drives the academic community and the general public to perform in a concert hall, which for many participants is a unique opportunity
